Oriental Shanghai Geological Museum, which is one of the "10 Municipal Projects for popular education in 2004" ,lies 2km to the north of Pudong Airport, and covers an area of more than 10000 ㎡,in which the Exhibition Area is more than 4000 ㎡.

The Museum includes, according to the contents, Mineral & Rock Hall, Tectonic Movement Hall, Ancient Creatures Hall, Topography Hall, and National Land Resources Hall etc.

Mineral & Rock Hall exhibits minerals and Rocks in systemic classification. The specimens which can be called "The World Class" are gypsum crystal that is more than 3 m in length and 80 cm in diameter, intergrowth crystal of fluorite and flower like calcite that weighs more than 1 ton. Other Minerals include almost all kinds in classifications.

Ancient Creatures Hall exhibits fossils in geological history. Here we can see fossils and petrified woods of which the longest one is nearly 40 m long!

In Tectonic Movement Hall, not only can we read a story of how the plate tectonic theory evolved, but also we can see many rock structures on specimens, like fold structure and fault structure etc. Rocks now we think are rigid and brittle, had in fact been soft once in the geological history. In Topography Hall, visitors have chances to watch different types of landform from a birds' eye view.
